Shimmering colors of autumn: Aspen, Oak and the forest of trees quiver, their light graceful leaves tremble and quake, silver and gold, scarlet and tangerine, with each light breeze. There is the quiet energy of change coming and vibrant color charges the woods. Crisp fall mountain air, slender trunks cut bright strokes of white against a dazzling kaleidoscope of colors. Staccato strokes and shimmering hues add to the feeling of change in the air and suggest the breeze whistling through the foliage.

I was awestruck by these massive fields of sunflowers blooming in Provence. Seeing this brilliant carpet of gold, with its sea of faces smiling towards the sun, just made me feel happy and I wanted you to experience that joy, too. Exaggerating the tile-roofed house in the distance also adds to that cheerful, whimsical mood of feeling content and like you’ve found your home. Created with palette knife and oil paint, “Bundle of Sunshine” practically leaps off the canvas and comes to life with its vibrant yellow petals and extremely thick three-dimensional oil paint.

Just Sold through the Good Art Company Gallery! I wanted this piece to be uplifting and full of color and energy. Set beneath a glowing sky on a beautiful summer evening with the sunflowers in full bloom, you can just make out the stone farmhouse in the distance against a backdrop of purple mountains surrounding the plain. Creating almost a patchwork with the sunflowers and their leaves, unexpected pops of red and purple peek out creating a rhythm and energy to the foreground. Perky, circular faces smile back at you and I hope all of your cares drift away while gazing into this cheerful scene.

Created with palette knife and thick oil paint, I wanted “Pops of Sunshine” to leap off the canvas and come to life. Using lots of short diagonal strokes to create movement and add to the upbeat feeling, golden blossoms rise from the tangle of leaves and wildflowers below. Working with complimentary colors also adds to the excitement and energy of the moment.

Just sold!  During our Santa Fe Art Trek, we headed to Georgia O'Keefe's home and painted at the gorgeous Ghost Ranch. Between the striking rock formations, the beauty and uniqueness of the stark desert landscape and the pure quality of the light on everything in sight, it was challenging to narrow down a subject. But, I chose this mountainside with the morning light creating brilliant peach and adobe colored highlights, contrasted against a turquoise-blue sky. The landscape was so wide and open, a panorama format seemed to work best for this scene.

Their owners seemed to be haivng so much fun and they took such pride in their mobile homes and the way they had decorated them, that a couple even gave us tours of the insides. They were inspiring! A sliver of the lake peeks through in the distance and I hope you are transported to this pictureque peaceful sopt, immersed by the beauty of nature.

I liked how the warm light accentuated the tree's curves and textured bark, and I chose this vertical composition to show off its size and strength. In the distance, the light starts to break through the clouds,  causing  the water's surface to glisten and illuminating the landscape. I hope this scene gives you a sense of peace and lifts your spirits for what the day has to bring.

Just Sold! I painted this colorful oak lined alleyway a couple of weeks ago on location at the Fort Worth Stock Yards. During the Oil Painters of America convention held last spring, artists from around the country gathered one day at White Rock Lake to capture the beautiful surroundings. I was drawn to this magnificent, massive live oak tree at Winfrey Point. Setting up my easel close to its base so that I could see and capture all of its gnarly trunk, roots and limbs, I kept the background softer to help show off its structure.
