My garden had more of these bloom  I've ever seen. I had to stop and take the time to paint them. I started on a dark canvas and carved out the flower, adding color and texture to the background.  They are a welcome sign of fall and cooling temperatures.

The glow of the early morning light first attracted me to this scene. The more I studied it, my focus was on the array of color in the plants that approached the lake. I painted this in layers and built up texture using the palette knife.

I was happy to get out and paint during my lunch break this week.  The Ft Worth Botanical Gardens are close to work and I try to go by often. It's a great place to walk and get some fresh air.  When I saw this garden of color I came back 3 times to paint. It was a refreshing break from my hectic life.

We travelled with Scott Williams and Niki Gulley of ArtTreks. They do the work of finding great locations to paint, stay and eat. It was an incredible trip and one I would recommend.  I was inspired in this charming Spanish town.
