This painting was inspired from a recent trip to Pagosa Springs, Colorado. I created this on location. The warm leaves on the tree seemed to glow against the cool colors of the mountains.   It was a wonderful location to paint and photograph.

We drove thru the Blanco Basin on our last day in Pagosa Springs. I found colorful landscapes and tons of inspiration.   A cold front moving through with strong winds. The sun was playing tricks and moving in and out. You never know what kind of challenge you will experience when plein air painting.  It is always a joy, no matter what the challenge is.

We drove by this view on the way to William's Creek Reservoir  in Pagosa Springs, Colorado. I made a metal note to return to this gorgeous scene.   I did return the next morning and set up quickly. Soon after it started raining and rained until I couldn't keep things dry. I painted under the back hatch on the car and it worked for a while.  As soon as I shut down and left and arrived back to the cabin, the sun came out!  This painting is available for purchase.
